However, this stretch of sea is traditionally considered to belong to the Tyrrhenian Sea, from which the name of the town derives. Tirrenia is located in the center of the Tuscan coast, immediately south of Versilia, and is included in the southernmost part of the Migliarino, San Rossore, Massaciuccoli natural park. It develops mainly along the coast, and is bordered by Marina di Pisa to the north, and Calambrone to the south. Its territory contains one of the last Italian dune environments, protected by a WWF oasis.
