PALAZZO MACCARANI ODESCALCHI The palace dates back to the early 17th century and originally belonged to the Maccarani family. In the second half of the 17th century, it was purchased by the Odescalchi Princes, who still own it. Monsignor Tommaso Odescalchi transformed it into a shelter for a group of abandoned girls hosted by the Hospice of S. Galla. Thanks to careful restoration and, in particular, a 19th-century renovation (which added a third floor with small windows under the beautiful cornice and modified the internal courtyard), the palace remains in excellent condition. The facade, adorned with two string courses and a rusticated corner, features ground-floor windows with pagoda-style pediments (with small basement windows beneath them), while the seven windows on the first and second floors are simply pedimented. Through the rusticated portal, slightly off-center on the facade, one enters the courtyard, where ancient fragments and inscriptions are embedded, along with a nymphaeum fountain.
