HISTORY NOTES OF THE MIGLIANO CASTLE: “The Migliano Castle stands out for its grandeur and for its position, marking in the past, as today, the administrative boundaries of the Perugian Priory. According to a historical-artistic report by the Ministry for Cultural and Environmental Heritage, the first memory of this castle dates back to 1131, in fact it was mentioned for the first time as a possession of Barbarossa's empire. Between the 12th and 14th centuries, however, it came under the jurisdiction of the Counts of Marsciano, to whom it belonged until the 17th century. After the mid-1600s and throughout the 18th century, the Castle passed into the ownership of the Monaldi Counts of Perugia, and in 1860 it was annexed to the Kingdom of Italy as a fraction of the Municipality of Marsciano. The Counts who owned the castle often used it as a country residence; they loved this pleasant place both for the wonderful landscape and for the particular therapeutic properties of the waters of the springs below; one located close to the river bed and the other located downstream from the village of Baccano, both rich in iron and magnesium, they have always been appreciated both by the Counts of Marsciano who used to go down to the springs to "pass the waters" and by illustrious figures, such as Pope Leo 13th, visitor and lover of the area since 1895.”
